About Darlene Gillard Jones
Former Essence Magazine Fashion Editor Darlene Gillard Jones graduated from New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology after receiving her BA from Oneonta State University. Armed with a degree, and fluent in French following some time studying abroad, she became an influential force in New York’s fashion industry. Over the past decade, she has held positions at Women’s Wear Daily, W, ELLE, Mirabella and Essence magazines and has maintained a successful freelance career as a fashion stylist.
As a stylist, Ms. Gillard Jones has dressed Sean “Diddy” Combs, Winona Ryder, Traci Ellis Ross, Mary J. Blige and Beyoncé Knowles just to name a few. She has also worked on a variety of feature films, advertising campaign projects and television networks.
After fulfilling her dreams of working as a stylist Ms. Gillard Jones formed her own public relations, event planning and image management firm, The Gillard Jones Agency. The boutique agency specializes in publicizing and promoting celebrity talent, organizations, and events.
Passionate about volunteer work and community service, Ms. Gillard Jones served as a member of Fashion Outreach, a non-profit organization aimed at maintaining minority representation in the fashion industry. In this capacity, she co-produced the Fashion Outreach Style Awards to celebrate African-American designers and celebrities who have had an impact on fashion. A noted public speaker and advocate for children, Gillard Jones also mentors teenage girls and has presented at elementary and high schools as well as other organizations.
